Abstract
A system and method for processing objects having chemical contaminates includes a shredding module arranged to shred the objects to form a plurality of shredded fragments, each having the chemical contaminates, and a separating module arranged to separate the chemical contaminates from the shredded fragments.
Claims25
A system for processing objects having chemical contaminates comprising:
- a shredding module arranged to shred the objects to form a plurality of shredded fragments, each having the chemical contaminates;
- a separating module arranged to separate the chemical contaminates from the shredded fragments;
- and
- a dissolving module arranged to substantially dissolve the chemical contaminates of the shredded fragments, wherein the dissolving module includes a steamer arranged to apply steam to the shredded fragments.

A system for processing used ink cartridges comprising:
- a shredding module arranged to shred the used ink cartridges to form a plurality of shredded fragments;
- a dissolving module arranged to substantially dissolve the ink of the shredded fragments by applying steam;
- a separating module arranged to separate the ink from the shredded fragments;
- a dryer arranged to reduce the moisture of the shredded fragments;
- a metal separating module arranged to separate metallic fragments from the shredded fragments;
- and
- a light fragment removing module arranged to remove light fragments from the shredded fragments.

A method for processing objects having chemical contaminates comprising the steps of:
- shredding the objects to form a plurality of shredded fragments each having the chemical contaminates;
- separating the chemical contaminates from the shredded fragments;
- and
- substantially dissolving the chemical contaminates of the shredded fragments, wherein the step of dissolving the chemical contaminates includes steaming the shredded fragments.
