## Abstract

A system, method, and computer program product for controlling migration of a VM operable on a first site and a second site. The system includes an identify component for identifying the second site; a request component for sending a consent request message to a software component, wherein the consent request message comprises at least one of an identifier of the VM and an identifier of the second site; a calculate component, operable on the software component and responsive to receiving the consent request message, for determining consent for the second site; a send component, responsive to a positive determination, for sending a consent message; and a migrate component, responsive to receiving the consent message, for migrating the VM from the first site to the second site.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for controlling migration of a virtual machine (VM) from a first site to a second site, the method comprising:
a data processing system identifying the second site;
the data processing system sending a consent request message to a software component, wherein the consent request message includes at least one of a set including an identifier of the VM and an identifier of the second site;
in response to receiving a consent message indicating consent of the software component to the migration, data processing system initiating migration of the VM from the first site to the second site.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending a consent request message comprises sending the consent request message to the VM.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending a consent request message comprises sending the consent request message to a hypervisor.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein:
the VM is a first VM; and
sending a consent request message comprises sending the consent request message to a second VM operable at the second site.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first site comprises a first server and the second site comprises a second server.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein identifying comprises applying a plurality of rules for identifying the second site.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein:
the method further comprises receiving a migration requirement of the software component; and
the migrating comprises migrating the VM from the first site to the second site in response to satisfying the migration requirement.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending the consent request message comprises sending the consent request message to the software component directly.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein:
the VM is a first VM;
the software component is one of a set including the first VM and a second VM operable at the second site; and
sending the consent request message comprises sending the consent request message to the software component via a hypervisor.
