## Abstract

A method is provided in one particular example that includes identifying an attempt by a first communications device to play video data within a virtual meeting session using a first media player. The first communications device can be sharing at least a portion of a desktop presented on the first communications device with one or more other remote communications devices participating in the virtual meeting session. The method can also include identifying a copy of the video data, and launching one or more media players to present at least a portion of the copy of the video data on the one or more other remote communications devices. The one or more media players are launched to correspond to a location of the first media player on the shared portion of the desktop.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method, comprising:
at a server device, identifying an attempt by a first video device to play video data within a virtual meeting session using a first media player, wherein the first video device shares at least a portion of a desktop presented on the first video device with one or more other remote video devices participating in the virtual meeting session;
receiving from the first video device and the one or more other remote video devices video coordination data including playback quality information of the video data;
determining from the video coordination data that playback quality of the video data at one of the remote video devices is degraded; and
in response to determining that the playback quality of the video data is degraded, sending to the remote video device with degraded video data an instruction to launch a media player native to the remote video device such that the media player on the remote video device plays the video data at a portion of a desktop screen of the remote video device at which the degraded video data would have otherwise been played.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending comprises sending the instruction to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to mask the degraded video data with video data played by the native media player.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending comprises sending the instruction to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to overlay the video data played by the native media player on the degraded video data at the portion of the desktop screen.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending comprises sending the instructions to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to play encoded video, in native quality, on the native media player.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising sending a message to the remote video device with the degraded video data to instruct the remote video device to edit out the degraded video data from the desktop screen.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sending comprises sending the instructions to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to erase the degraded video data.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising sending an indication to the first video device to instruct the first video device to omit sending subsequent video data to the video device with the degraded video data.

### Claim 8

An apparatus comprising:
a network connection unit; and
a processor coupled to the network connection unit, and configured to:
identify an attempt by a first video device to play video data within a virtual meeting session using a first media player, wherein the first video device shares at least a portion of a desktop presented on the first video device with one or more other remote video devices participating in the virtual meeting session;
receive from the first video device and the one or more other remote video devices video coordination data including playback quality information of the video data;
determine from the video coordination data that playback quality of the video data at one of the remote video devices is degraded; and
in response to determining that the playback quality of the video data is degraded, send to the remote video device with degraded video data an instruction to launch a media player native to the remote video device such that the media player on the remote video device plays the video data at a portion of a desktop screen of the remote video device at which the degraded video data would have otherwise been played.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send the instruction to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to mask the degraded video data with video data played by the native media player.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send the instruction to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to overlay the video data played by the native media player on the degraded video data at the portion of the desktop screen.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send the instructions to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to play encoded video, in native quality, on the native media player.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send a message to the remote video device with the degraded video data to instruct the remote video device to edit out the degraded video data from the desktop screen.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send the instructions to the remote video device to cause the remote video device to erase the degraded video data.

### Claim 14 (depends on 8)

The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to send an indication to the first video device to instruct the first video device to omit sending subsequent video data to the video device with the degraded video data.

### Claim 15

A system comprising:
a memory element storing data; and
a processor operable to execute instructions associated with the stored data and configured to:
identify an attempt by a first video device to play video data within a virtual meeting session using a first media player, wherein the first video device shares at least a portion of a desktop presented on the first video device with one or more other remote video devices participating in the virtual meeting session;
receive from the first video device and the one or more other remote video devices video coordination data including playback quality information of the video data;
determine from the video coordination data that playback quality of the video data at one of the remote video devices is degraded; and
in response to determining that the playback quality of the video data is degraded, send to the remote video device with degraded video data an instruction to launch a media player native to the remote video device such that the media player on the remote video device plays the video data at a portion of a desktop screen of the remote video device at which the degraded video data would have otherwise been played.
