## Abstract

A system for interfacing predetermined services to a user at a fixed location includes a processing platform running an operating system. Also included are a plurality of physical system resource interfaces for interfacing with available physical system resources. The physical system resources allow a user to gain access to the predetermined desired services. The system further includes a data store for storing configuration information for enabling the operating system to interface with the available physical system resources through the physical system resource interface associated therewith. A communication resource for interfacing with the operating system allows communication of the operating system with a central office for downloading configuration information to selectively enable ones of the available physical system resources to interface with the operating system through associated ones of the physical system resource interfaces in accordance with the configuration information and the predetermined service selected by a user. A plurality of configurations are stored in the data store, and each is associated with a predetermined service and one or more of the available physical system resources. Each physical system resource interface is uniquely associated with a defined one of the physical system resources.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system for providing access to employees of accrued and unpaid earnings representing unpaid earnings prior to the end of a current pay period, the employees subscribing to the system to obtain such access, wherein the system is accessed with a personal wireless communications device comprising:
a local server operative to communicate with the personal wireless communications device to operate in conjunction therewith to facilitate a financial transaction for at least some of the subscribing employees and including:
a database including a list of subscribing employees and available accrued and unpaid earnings for at least some of the subscribing employees;
a transaction processor operative to access the database to determine the available accrued and unpaid earnings for a given one of the subscribing employees to transfer value on behalf of the given one of the subscribing employees and debit the available and unpaid earnings of the given employee on the database in the amount of the transferred value.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein the local server includes a communications interface with an employer processor having access to an employer database including records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees, the interface enabling download of the records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees from an employer processor and database to the local server and database.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2 wherein the download of records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees is a push type data transfer initiated at predetermined time intervals.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The system of claim 2 wherein the download of records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees is a pull type data transfer initiated at predetermined time intervals.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein a subscribing employee's accrued and unpaid earnings include earnings due the subscribing employee prior to the end of a payroll period but before the earnings have been disbursed to the subscribing employee.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein a subscribing employee's accrued and unpaid earnings include earnings due the subscribing employee at the end of a payroll period but before the earnings have been disbursed to the subscribing employee.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The system of claim 1 wherein a subscribing employee's accrued and unpaid earnings include earnings due the employee on a predetermined date prior to the end of a payroll period but before the earnings have been disbursed to the subscribing employee.

### Claim 8

A system for providing access to employees of accrued and unpaid earnings representing unpaid earnings prior to the end of a current pay period, the employees subscribing to the system to obtain such access, wherein the system is accessed with a personal wireless communications device comprising:
a local server operative to communicate with wireless communications device to operate in conjunction therewith to facilitate a financial transaction for at least some of the subscribing employees, the local server further operative to receive payroll records of the employer of the employees, the payroll records including accrued but unpaid earnings of at least some of the subscribing employees for a current pay period and including:
a database including a list of subscribing employees and available accrued and unpaid earnings for at least some of the subscribing employees, the database further including records of value transferred on behalf of subscribing employees during the current pay period; and
a local server transaction processor operative to access the database to determine the available accrued and unpaid earnings for a given one of the subscribing employees, and transfer value on behalf of the given one of the subscribing employees, debit the available and unpaid earnings of the given employee on the database for the transferred value and provide an employer of the subscribing employees with a record of value transfer transactions for a predetermined time period ending prior to disbursement of accrued earnings for a pay period.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8 wherein the local server transaction processor includes a communications interface with an employer processor having access to an employer database including records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The system of claim 9 wherein the communications interface enables download of the records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees from the employer processor and database to the local service transaction processor and database and wherein a given one of the subscribing employees can use a wireless communications device to access the local service transaction processor and database to determine his or her record of accrued and unpaid earnings for a predetermined period.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The system of claim 10 wherein the download of records of accrued and unpaid earnings for subscribing employees is one of a push type data transfer initiated at predetermined time intervals or a pull type data transfer initiated at predetermined time intervals.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8 further comprising a processing center remote from the local server and wherein the local server includes a communications link enabling the local server to communicate with the processing center to receive and transmit data relating to subscribing employee and third party services available to subscribing employees.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8 wherein a subscribing employee's accrued and unpaid earnings include earnings due the subscribing employee at the end of a payroll period but before the earnings have been disbursed to the subscribing employee.

### Claim 14 (depends on 8)

The system of claim 8 wherein a subscribing employee's accrued and unpaid earnings include earnings due the employee on a predetermined date prior to the end of a payroll period but before the earnings have been disbursed to the subscribing employee.

### Claim 15

A system for providing access to employees of accrued and unpaid earnings representing unpaid earnings prior to the end of a current pay period, the employees subscribing to the system to obtain such access with a personal wireless communications device, comprising:
a local server operative to communicate with the personal wireless communications device to operate in conjunction therewith to facilitate a financial transaction for at least some of the subscribing employees, the local server further operative to receive payroll records of the employer of the employees, the payroll records including accrued but unpaid earnings of at least some of the subscribing employees for a current pay period and including:
a database including a list of subscribing employees and available accrued and unpaid earnings for at least some of the subscribing employees, the database further including records of value transferred on behalf of subscribing employees during the current pay period;
