## Abstract

Methods and systems are disclosed to map locations of wireless transmitters for use in gathering market research data. A disclosed example method involves displaying a representation of a commercial establishment on a portable device, obtaining transmitter data via the portable device from a wireless transmitter located within the commercial establishment, and in response to the portable device receiving a user selection of a first location on the representation of the commercial establishment, associating the first location with the transmitter data and location information generated by the portable device representative of a physical location in the commercial establishment.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
displaying a representation of a commercial establishment on a portable device;
obtaining transmitter data via the portable device from a wireless transmitter located within the commercial establishment; and
in response to the portable device receiving a user selection of a first location on the representation of the commercial establishment, associating the first location with the transmitter data and location information generated by the portable device representative of a physical location in the commercial establishment.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, further comprising associating the first location with product data of a product proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the transmitter data comprises information regarding a commercial item proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the location information comprises location coordinates.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the representation of the commercial establishment is a map of an interior portion of the commercial establishment.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the transmitter data is obtained via a radio frequency signal.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the transmitter data is obtained by scanning a barcode located on the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

A method as defined in claim 7, wherein the wireless transmitter is associated with information regarding a commercial item proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the representation of the commercial establishment is a map, the portable device is a tablet device comprising a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader, the user selection is received via a touch interface, and the wireless transmitter is an RFID tag.

### Claim 10

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device comprising instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:
display a representation of a commercial establishment on a portable device;
obtain transmitter data via the portable device from a wireless transmitter located within the commercial establishment; and
in response to the portable device receiving a user selection of a first location on the representation of the commercial establishment, associate the first location with the transmitter data and location information generated by the portable device representative of a physical location in the commercial establishment.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, further comprising instructions which, when executed, cause the machine to associate the first location with product data of a product proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the transmitter data comprises information regarding a commercial item proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 13 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the location information comprises location coordinates.

### Claim 14 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the representation of the commercial establishment is a map of an interior portion of the commercial establishment.

### Claim 15 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the transmitter data is obtained via a radio frequency signal.

### Claim 16 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the transmitter data is obtained by scanning a barcode located on the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 17 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the wireless transmitter is associated with information regarding a commercial item proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 18 (depends on 10)

A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device as defined in claim 10, wherein the representation of the commercial establishment is a map, the portable device is a tablet device comprising a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader, the user selection is received via a touch interface, and the wireless transmitter is an RFID tag.

### Claim 19

An apparatus comprising:
a processor:
memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing machine readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to:
display a representation of a commercial establishment on a portable device;
obtain transmitter data via the portable device from a wireless transmitter located within the commercial establishment;
in response to the portable device receiving a user selection of a first location on the representation of the commercial establishment, associate the first location with the transmitter data and location information generated by the portable device representative of a physical location in the commercial establishment; and
in response to the transmitter data not being associated with product data of a product proximate the wireless transmitter, receive a user input of the product data of the product proximate the wireless transmitter.

### Claim 20 (depends on 19)

An apparatus as defined in claim 19, wherein the memory further stores machine readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to associate the first location with the product data of the product proximate the wireless transmitter.
