## Abstract

The present invention relates to an in vitro method of diagnosis, prognosis and/or monitoring of pathologies caused by gliotoxin-producing fungi or their derivatives, characterized in that it is based on the detection of SS′-dimethyl-gliotoxin in a biological sample. Also relates to the use of the SS′-dimethyl-gliotoxin as marker for the diagnosis, prognosis and/or monitoring of pathologies caused by gliotoxin-producing fungi or their derivatives in a subject.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for the in vitro diagnosis, prognosis and/or monitoring of pathologies caused by gliotoxin-producing fungi or their derivatives characterized by the detection of SS′-dimethyl-gliotoxin in the biological sample of a subject.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the detection is carried out using the following steps:
a) separation of SS′-dimethyl-gliotoxin in the sample by chromatography;
b) detection and/or quantification of the compound separated in (a) by ultraviolet spectroscopy.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method according to claim 2, wherein the separation of step (a) is carried out by thin layer chromatography (HPTLC).

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3, wherein the detection of step (b) is performed between 220 and 400 nm.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein the detection of step (b) is performed at 280 nm.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the fungus is a mould or a yeast.

### Claim 7

(canceled)

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The method according to claim 6 wherein the fungus is a mould of the genus Aspergillus or Penicillium.

### Claim 9

(canceled)

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8 wherein the mould is Aspergillus fumigatus.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the pathology is aspergilliosis.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the pathology is penicilliosis.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the subject is human.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the subject is an immunodepressed subject.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the biological sample is selected from serum, plasma, blood or bronchoalveolar lavage.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein it further comprises the detection of biological components or metabolites of fungi, wherein said components or metabolites are selected from the list comprising: galactomannan, (1-3)beta-D-glucan, DNA, antigens, gliotoxin, gliotoxin E, Gliotoxin G, S-methylgliotoxin, helvolic acid, sirodesmins, aranotin, emestryn, dithiosilvatin, sporidesmin, sterigmatocystin, aflatoxins, ochratoxins, fumonisins or any of their combinations.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)
