## Abstract

Disclosed is a secondary battery having a structure in which a jelly-roll having a cathode/separator/anode structure is mounted in a cylindrical battery case, wherein a plate-shaped insulator mounted on the top of the jelly-roll includes a woven fabric or a knit fabric made of fibers.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A secondary battery having a structure in which a jelly-roll having a cathode/separator/anode structure is mounted in a cylindrical battery case,
wherein a plate-shaped insulator mounted on the top of the jelly-roll comprises a woven fabric or a knit fabric made of fibers.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein the fibers comprise synthetic fibers and/or natural fibers.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein fine pores formed in the woven fabric or knit fabric permeate an electrolyte, but do not permeate foreign matter having a size of 100 μm or higher.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The secondary battery according to claim 2, wherein the fine pores have a size of 1 μm to 100 μm.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The secondary battery according to claim 2, wherein the fine pores have a shape of a through hole having a uniform diameter in a longitudinal direction.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The secondary battery according to claim 2, wherein the fine pores have a shape of a communication hole having a non-uniform diameter in a longitudinal direction.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein the insulator has a mono-layer or a multi-layer structure comprising a woven fabric or a knit fabric.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein the insulator has a thickness of 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein the battery is a lithium secondary battery.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The secondary battery according to claim 1, wherein the battery comprises an opening perforated in the insulator, to provide gas discharge and pass-through of electrode terminals.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

A device comprising the secondary battery according to claim 1 as a power source.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The device according to claim 11, wherein the device is selected from a cellular phone, a portable computer, a light electronic vehicle (LEV), an electric vehicle, a hybrid electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and a power-storing device.
