The food composition has a moisture content from about 60% to about 74% of the composition by weight and has a loaf-type structure. In an embodiment, the moisture content of the pseudo-loaf food composition is from about 67% to about 74% of the composition by weight. In addition, the invention provides methods of making pseudo-loaf food compositions and also provides blended food compositions comprising one or more pseudo-loaf compositions and one or more comestible ingredients compatible with the pseudo-loaf food compositions. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A pseudo-loaf food composition comprising: meat analog chunks and gravy, the gravy comprising a thickener selected from the group consisting of a gum present in the gravy in an amount from about 0.5 to about 3.0% of the gravy by weight; a starch present in the gravy in an amount from about 2.0 to about 9.0% of the gravy by weight; and combinations thereof; and the food composition having a moisture content from about 60% to about 74% of the food composition by weight and having a loaf-type structure. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the moisture content is from about 67% to about 74% of the food composition. ### Claim 3 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the meat analog chunks comprise meat. ### Claim 4 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the meat analog chunks are present in an amount from about 40% to about 50% of the food composition. ### Claim 5 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the gravy is present in an amount from about 40% to about 50% of the food composition. ### Claim 6 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 formulated to provide complete and balanced nutrition for an animal. ### Claim 7 (depends on 6) The food composition of claim 6 wherein the animal is a companion animal. ### Claim 8 (depends on 7) The food composition of claim 7 wherein the animal is a dog or a cat. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the gum is present in the gravy in an amount from about 0.7 to about 2.0% of the gravy. ### Claim 10 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the starch is present in the gravy in an amount from about 3.0 to 5.0% of the gravy. ### Claim 11 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 further comprising at least one of a grain, a vegetable, vegetable oil, a pasta or a cheese. ### Claim 12 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the loaf-type structure is friable. ### Claim 13 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the starch is a starch modified with erythorbic acid. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) The food composition of claim 1 wherein the gum is xanthan gum. ### Claim 15 A method for making a pseudo-loaf food composition, the method comprising: forming meat analog chunks from a solidified emulsion; and mixing the meat analog chunks with gravy comprising a thickener selected from the group consisting of a gum present in the gravy in an amount from about 0.5 to about 3.0% of the gravy by weight, a starch present in the gravy in an amount from about 2.0 to about 9.0% of the gravy by weight, and combinations thereof, to form the pseudo-loaf food composition; the pseudo-loaf food composition having a moisture content that is from about 60% to about 74% of the composition by weight and having a loaf-type structure. ### Claim 16 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 comprising: emulsifying meat in water to form a first emulsion; performing a second emulsion step in which the first emulsion is thermally gelled by rapid heating to form a second emulsion; and lowering a temperature of the second emulsion to form the solidified emulsion. ### Claim 17 (depends on 16) The method of claim 16 wherein at least one of flour or dry proteinaceous material is emulsified with the meat and the water to form the first emulsion. ### Claim 18 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 comprising positioning the pseudo-loaf food composition in a can and then sealing, retorting and cooling the can. ### Claim 19 (depends on 15) The method of claim 15 wherein the food composition is formulated to provide complete and balanced nutrition for an animal. ### Claim 20 (depends on 19) The method of claim 19 wherein the animal is a companion animal. ### Claim 21 (depends on 20) The method of claim 20 wherein the companion animal is a dog or a cat.
