## Abstract

A prophylactic antiallergenic composition includes at least one arabinogalactan or arabinogalactan protein. The arabinogalactan or arabinogalactan protein is isolated from a grass or corresponds in its structural arrangement to an arabinogalactan that can be isolated from a grass.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of reducing a likelihood of, protecting against or treating allergic diseases or chronic inflammatory diseases, comprising:
administering a prophylactic antiallergenic composition comprising at least one arabinogalactan or arabinogalactan protein into a mammal that is in need of such reduction, protection or treatment,
wherein said at least one arabinogalactan or arabinogalactan protein is isolated from at least one grass or corresponds in its structural arrangement to an arabinogalactan isolatable from at least one grass,
wherein the allergic diseases or chronic inflammatory diseases are selected from the group consisting of IgE-dependent Type I allergic diseases or Type IV allergic diseases, chronic inflammatory skin diseases, and autoimmune diseases.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the allergic diseases are selected from the group consisting of IgE-dependent Type I allergic diseases.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is configured to reduce a likelihood of, protect against or treat one or more selected from the group consisting of hay fever, food allergy, asthma, urticaria, neurodermitis, atopic dermatitis, contact eczema, psoriasis, diabetes type 1 or 2, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and a disease of the thyroid gland.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is configured to reduce a likelihood of, protect against or treat one or more selected from the group consisting of hay fever, food allergy, asthma, urticaria, neurodermitis, and atopic dermatitis.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is configured to reduce a likelihood of, protect against or treat one or more selected from the group consisting of hay fever and asthma.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The method according to claim 2, wherein the at least one grass is selected from the group of Meadow Foxtail (Alopecurus pratensis), timothy grass and timothy grass pollen (Phleum pratense L), Cock's Foot (Dactyhs glomerata), Yorkshire Fog (Holcus lannatus), English Raygrass (Lolium perenne), Smooth Meadow grass (Poa pratense), Rye (Secale cereale) or grasses from related species or a mixture thereof.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition comprises an arabinogalactan selected from the group consisting of compounds of the structure shown in FIG. 1.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition comprises at least one further active ingredient selected from the group of naturally occurring, isolated bacteria of the genus Lactococcus or fragments of said bacteria.

### Claim 9 (depends on 9)

The method according to claim 9, wherein the bacteria are selected from Lactococcus lactis.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition comprises at least one further active ingredient comprising humic acid.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition is a pharmaceutical composition in form of an aerosol, aqueous solution, suspension, lyophilisate, or powder for nasal or inhalative application.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition is in form for nasal or inhalative administration.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is suitable for application for an infant (baby) or a pregnant, which due to a positive family anamnesis has an increased risk to develop any allergic disease or chronic inflammatory disease or which shows a first sign of such a disease.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is configured to provide a prophylactic antiallergenic effect such that said composition is administered before any onset of an allergic disease or an chronic inflammatory disease.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is suitable for application to a pregnant woman such that said reduction, protection or treatment of an infant will be obtained by the application of the composition to the pregnant mother.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)
