## Abstract

A method for transmitting Machine to Machine (M2M) ranging information in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting an M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended Information Element (IE) including M2M ranging region information. When the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE is transmitted, an UL MAP IE with the same region as the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE is transmitted and an Uplink Interval Usage Code of the UL MAP IE is 12.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for transmitting Machine to Machine (M2M) ranging information at a Base Station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
transmitting an M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended Information Element (IE) including M2M ranging region information,
wherein when the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE is transmitted, the BS transmits an UL MAP IE identifying the same region as the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE and wherein an Uplink Interval Usage Code (UIUC) of the UL MAP IE is 12.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein a dedicated ranging indicator is set to 1 in the UL MAP IE.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the M2M ranging region information includes an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) symbol offset, a subchannel offset, the number of OFDMA symbols, and the number of subchannels.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein if the BS does not include dedicated ranging information in a paging message, a Mobile station (MS) neglects ranging region information included in the UL MAP IE.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the BS includes an indicator indicating whether an M2M device can use ranging region information included in the UL MAP IE in an Uplink Channel Descriptor (UCD).

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the M2M ranging region information is used for an M2M device to transmit a ranging code.

### Claim 7

A method for receiving Machine to Machine (M2M) ranging information at an M2M device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
acquiring synchronization to a Base Station (BS); and
receiving an M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended Information Element (IE) including M2M ranging region information,
wherein the M2M device receives an UL MAP IE identifying the same region as the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE and wherein an Uplink Interval Usage Code (UIUC) of the UL MAP IE is 12.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7, wherein a dedicated ranging indicator is set to 1 in the UL MAP IE.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7, wherein the M2M ranging region information includes an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) symbol offset, a subchannel offset, the number of OFDMA symbols, and the number of subchannels.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7, wherein if a Mobile station (MS) does not receive a paging message including dedicated ranging information from the BS, the MS neglects ranging region information included in the UL MAP IE.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7, further receiving an Uplink Channel Descriptor (UCD) including an indicator indicating whether the M2M device can use ranging region information included in the UL MAP IE.

### Claim 12 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7, further comprising transmitting a ranging code using the M2M ranging region information.

### Claim 13

A Base Station (BS) for transmitting Machine to Machine (M2M) ranging information in a wireless communication system, the BS comprising:
a Radio Frequency (RF) Unit; and
a processor,
wherein the processor controls transmission of an M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended Information Element (IE) including M2M ranging region information through the RF unit and, when the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE is transmitted, controls transmission of an UL MAP IE identifying the same region as the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE through the RF unit, and an Uplink Interval Usage Code (UIUC) of the UL MAP IE is 12.

### Claim 14

A Machine to Machine (M2M) device for receiving M2M ranging information in a wireless communication system, the M2M device comprising:
a Radio Frequency (RF) Unit; and
a processor,
wherein the processor receives an M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended Information Element (IE) including M2M ranging region information and an UL MAP IE identifying the same region as the M2M ranging allocation UL MAP extended IE through the RF unit and an Uplink Interval Usage Code (UIUC) of the UL MAP IE is 12.
