## Abstract

Methods and apparatus are described for a User Equipment (UE) to determine a set of resources available for transmitting an acknowledgement signal in an UpLink (UL) Component Carrier (CC) in response to reception of multiple DownLink (DL) Scheduling Assignments (SAs) transmitted from a base station with each DL SA being associated with a respective DL CC. The UL CC and a first DL CC establish a communication link when the UE is configured for communication over a single UL CC and a single DL CC.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of a User Equipment (UE), comprising:
receiving Downlink Scheduling Assignment (DL SA) and data from a Base Station (BS), the DL SA including a Transmission Power Control (TPC) and a Downlink Assignment Index (DM);
determining a resource for an acknowledgement signal based on a value of the TPC and a value of the DAI; and
transmitting, to the BS, the acknowledgment signal via the determined resource.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the value of the DAI indicates when the DL SA is to be received by the UE.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the value of the TPC indicates the resource for the acknowledgment signal if the value of the DAI is greater than one.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the TPC is used for power control if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a first carrier.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the value of the TPC indicates the resource of the acknowledgment signal if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a second carrier that is different than the first carrier.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the method is performed in a communication system using Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).

### Claim 7

A User Equipment (UE), comprising:
a receiver configured to receive Downlink Scheduling Assignment (DL SA) and data from a Base Station (BS), the DL SA including a Transmission Power Control (TPC) and a Downlink Assignment Index (DAI);
a controller configured to determine a resource for an acknowledgement signal based on a value of the TPC and a value of the DAI; and
a transmitter configured to transmit, to the BS, the acknowledgment signal via the determined resource.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The UE of claim 7, wherein the value of the DAI indicates when the DL SA is to be received by the UE.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The UE of claim 7, wherein the value of the TPC indicates the resource for the acknowledgment signal if a value of the DAI is greater than one.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The UE of claim 7, wherein the TPC is used for power control if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a first carrier.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The UE of claim 10, wherein the value of TPC indicates the resource of the acknowledgment signal if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a second carrier that is different than the first carrier.

### Claim 12 (depends on 7)

The UE of claim 7, wherein the UE operates in a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) communication system.

### Claim 13

A Base Station (BS), comprising:
a transmitter configured to transmit a Downlink Scheduling Assignment (DL SA) and data to a User Equipment (UE), the DL SA including a Transmission Power Control (TPC) and a Downlink Assignment Index (DAI); and
a receiver configured to receive, from the UE, an acknowledgment signal via a resource,
wherein the resource is determined, by the UE, for the acknowledgement signal based on a value of the TPC and a value of the DAI.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The BS of claim 13, wherein the value of the DAI indicates when the DL SA is to be received by the UE.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The BS of claim 13, wherein the value of the TPC indicates the resource for the acknowledgment signal if the value of the DAI is greater than one.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The BS of claim 13, wherein the TPC is used for power control if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a first carrier.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The BS of claim 16, wherein the value of TPC indicates the resource of the acknowledgment signal if the value of the DAI is equal to one and the DL SA is received in a second carrier that is different than the first carrier.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The BS of claim 13, wherein the BS operates in a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) communication system.
