## Abstract

Methods and apparatus for wireless communication for improving the call performance and power consumption during the connection state of a user equipment (UE). Aspects of the methods and apparatus relate to receiving a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity and decoding every TPC slot of the TPC command. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include ceasing the decoding of a TPC slot set when the current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with the previous decoded symbol of the TPC slot. The receiver of the UE is then deactivated until the end of the TPC slot set.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of wireless communication, comprising:
receiving a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity at a user equipment (UE), wherein the TPC command is divided into TPC slots;
decoding every TPC slot of the TPC command resulting in a decoded symbol for every TPC slot of the TPC command;
determining when a current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with a previous decoded symbol in the TPC slot;
ceasing the decoding of a TPC slot set when the current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with the previous decoded symbol of the TPC slot;
deactivating a receiver of the UE until an end of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising;
reactivating the receiver of the UE after every TPC slot set.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the TPC command are divided into three sets of five TPC slots within a radio frame.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the received TPC command is a voice only call.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the received TPC command is a packet switched call, or a circuit switched call.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the received TPC command is a multiple radio access bearer (MRAB) call.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the TPC command is either a UP command or a DOWN command.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
omitting the decoding of a predetermined number of TPC slots in each TPC slot set.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the omitting the decoding of a predetermined number of TPC slots in each TPC slot set comprises omitting the first three TPC slots of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein transmission power changes based on the last two TPC slots of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 11

An apparatus of wireless communication, comprising:
at least one processor; and
a memory coupled to the at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:
receive a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity at a user equipment (UE), wherein the TPC command is divided into TPC slots;
decode every TPC slot of the TPC command resulting in a decoded symbol for every TPC slot of the TPC command;
determine when a current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with a previous decoded symbol in the TPC slot set;
cease the decoding of a TPC slot set when the current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with the previous decoded symbol of the TPC slot;
deactivate a receiver of the UE until an end of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
reactivate the receiver of the UE after every TPC slot set.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the TPC command are divided into three sets of five TPC slots within a radio frame.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the received TPC command is a voice only call.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the received TPC command is a packet switched call, or a circuit switched call.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the received TPC command is a multiple radio access bearer (MRAB) call.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the TPC command is either a UP command or a DOWN command.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
omit the decoding of a predetermined number of TPC slots in each TPC slot set.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the at least one processor configured to omit the decoding of a predetermined number of TPC slots in each TPC slot set is further configured to omit the first three TPC slots of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 20 (depends on 18)

The apparatus of claim 18, wherein transmission power changes based on the last two TPC slots of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 21

An apparatus of wireless communication, comprising:
means for receiving a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity at a user equipment (UE), wherein the TPC command is divided into TPC slots;
means for decoding every TPC slot of the TPC command resulting in a decoded symbol for every TPC slot of the TPC command;
means for determining when a current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with a previous decoded symbol in the TPC slot;
means for ceasing the decoding of a TPC slot set when the current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with the previous decoded symbol of the TPC slot;
means for deactivating a receiver of the UE until an end of the TPC slot set.

### Claim 22

A computer program product stored on a computer readable medium, comprising code for:
receiving a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity at a user equipment (UE), wherein the TPC command is divided into TPC slots;
