## Abstract

Methods of aggregating spectrum data captured from a narrowband radio to form a spectrum covering a much wider frequency band. Frequency data, such as FFT spectrum data captured from a narrowband receiver such as an IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi receiver are combined to display representative real-time FFT, average FFT, and FFT duty cycle data of a wideband spectrum. Data is captured from narrow band radios such as access points, station monitors, or client devices on a wireless network. A wideband spectrum may be aggregated from data captured from one or from multiple devices. Data may be stored for later analysis and display.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more hardware processors, causes performance of a set of operations comprising:
accumulating spectral data from a radio scanning a plurality of channels;
for a particular channel of the plurality of channels, selecting a first spectral data representing a first signal strength of a Wi-Fi signal transmitted on that channel;
for the particular channel of the plurality of channels, selecting a second spectral data representing a second signal strength of a non-Wi-Fi signal transmitted on that channel;
combining the first spectral data representing the first signal strength of the Wi-Fi signal transmitted on the particular channel and the second spectral data representing the second signal strength of the non-Wi-Fi signal transmitted on the particular channel to produce a spectrum display representing both: the first signal strength of the Wi-Fi signal transmitted on the particular channel and the second signal strength of the non-Wi-Fi signal transmitted on the particular channel.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the first spectral data representing the first signal strength of the Wi-Fi signal is selected based at least on the first signal strength of the Wi-Fi signal exceeding a threshold value.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the second spectral data representing the second signal strength of the non-Wi-Fi signal is selected based at least on the second signal strength of the non-Wi-Fi signal exceeding a threshold value.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the Wi-Fi signal is received on the radio during a first time period and the non-Wi-Fi signal is received on the radio during a second time period different than the first time period.

### Claim 5

A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more hardware processors, causes performance of operations comprising:
determining whether at least one wireless signal from an interferer device is detected on a particular channel of a plurality of channels;
responsive to not detecting at least one wireless signal from an interferer device, setting a first period of time as a dwell time for the particular channel;
responsive to detecting at least one wireless signal from the interferer device, setting a second period of time as the dwell time for the particular channel, the second period of time being longer than the first period of time;
scanning the particular channel for the dwell time to generate spectral data representing a signal strength of one or more wireless signals detected on the particular channel during the scanning operation.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The machine readable medium of claim 5, wherein the second period of time time is based on a device type of the interferer device.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The machine readable medium of claim 5, wherein the second period of time is based on a hopping rate of the interferer device for hopping between different channels of the plurality of channels to transmit a plurality of wireless signals.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The machine readable medium of claim 5, wherein the second period of time is based on an occupied bandwidth for wireless signals transmitted by the interferer device.
