## Abstract

Disclosed in this specification is a multilayer, laminated busbar and a method for making the same. Two or more elongated conductors are stacked on top of each other to align their long and short edges. Portions of the surfaces of each conductor are covered with a continuous sheet of insulating material.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for making a multilayer, laminated busbar comprising:
providing two or more elongated busbar conductors, each with a surface;
wrapping each surface with a continuous sheet of insulating material;
stacking the wrapped busbars on top of each other; and
applying heat and pressure to the stacked, wrapped busbars to fix the insulating material to the surfaces of the busbars to create a multilayer, laminated busbar.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein:
at least one busbar has an elongated rectangular shape defined by two long edges and two short edges and one or more flanges extend from one of the long edges; and
the sheet of insulating material has a corresponding opening or slot for each flange.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein:
at least one busbar has an elongated rectangular shape defined by two long edges and two short edges; and
the method further comprising the step of overlapping at least one short edge of one busbar with a portion of the continuous sheet of insulating material on the surface of said one busbar.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein:
at least one busbar has an elongated rectangular shape defined by two long edges and two short edges; and
the method further comprising the step of leaving at least one short edge of one busbar free from wrapping with a portion of the continuous sheet of insulating material on the surface of said one busbar.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of wrapping further comprises wrapping two or more busbars with the same sheet of insulating materials.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the step of wrapping further comprises wrapping two or more busbars with different sheets of insulating materials.

### Claim 7

A multilayer, laminated busbar comprising:
two or more elongated busbar conductors, said busbars stacked on top of each other to align their long and short edges;
each busbar has a surface defined by two long edges separated at their opposite ends by two shorter edges, said busbars being relatively thin compared to their respective lengths and widths; and
each surface of each busbar is covered with a continuous sheet of insulating material.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The multilayer, laminated busbar of claim 7 wherein two or more busbars are covered with the same sheet of insulating material.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The multilayer, laminated busbar of claim 7 wherein two or more busbars are covered with different sheets of insulating material.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The multilayer, laminated busbar of claim 7 wherein at least one busbars has one short end covered with a portion of the continuous sheet of insulating material on the surface of the busbar.
