## CPC

- A01M 29/26: specially adapted for birds, e.g. electrified rods, cords or strips
- A01M: CATCHING, TRAPPING OR SCARING OF ANIMALS (appliances for catching swarms or drone-catching A01K57/00; fishing A01K69/00 - {A01K99/00}; biocides, pest repellants or attractants A01N); APPARATUS FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF NOXIOUS ANIMALS OR NOXIOUS PLANTS

## Abstract

Electric deterrent device for birds or other pests are described that include at least one conductor coupled to an elongated base having upper and lower surfaces. The base can include on at least a portion of the base, and preferably at least part of the lower surface.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electric deterrent device, comprising:
an elongated base having upper and lower surfaces;
a first conductor coupled to the upper surface of the base; and
a coating on at least a portion of the lower surface of the base.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a first fastener that extends from the first conductor to the lower surface of the base, and wherein the coating is at least partially disposed over a portion of the first fastener.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the coating is sufficient to prevent water from contacting the portion of the first fastener where the coating is disposed.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the coating forms a layer along at least the portion of the lower surface.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the base comprises a first trough disposed at least partially underneath the first conductor, and wherein the coating is disposed on at least a portion of the first trough.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The device of claim 5, further comprising a first fastener that extends from the first conductor to the first trough, and wherein the coating is at least partially disposed over a portion of the first fastener.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a second conductor separate from the first conductor and coupled to the upper surface of the base.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The device of claim 7, further comprising a second fastener that extends from the second conductor to the lower surface of the base, and wherein the coating is at least partially disposed over a portion of the second fastener.

### Claim 9

An electric deterrent device, comprising:
an elongated base having upper and lower surfaces, and an elongated, first trough disposed along the lower surface;
a first conductor coupled to the upper surface of the base; and
a coating on at least a portion of a surface of the first trough.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, further comprising a first fastener that extends from the first conductor to the first trough, and wherein the coating is at least partially disposed over a portion of the first fastener.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The device of claim 10, wherein the first fastener comprises thread.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The device of claim 10, wherein the coating is sufficient to prevent water from contacting the portion of the first fastener where the coating is disposed.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the coating forms a layer along at least the portion of the surface of the first trough.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, further comprising a second conductor separate from the first conductor and coupled to the upper surface of the base.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The device of claim 14, further comprising:
an elongated, second trough disposed along the lower surface;
a second fastener that extends from the second conductor to the second trough; and
wherein the coating is at least partially disposed over a portion of the second fastener.

### Claim 16

A method of insulating an electric deterrent device, comprising:
providing access to an electric deterrent device having a base with a first conductor on an upper surface of the base and a fastener that extends from the first conductor to a lower surface of the base; and
applying a coating to at least a portion of the lower surface of the base.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the device comprises an indentation on a lower surface of the base.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the base comprises a flat lower surface.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the step of applying the coating further comprises applying the coating in an amount sufficient to insulate a lower surface of the base from a perch surface.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, further comprising applying the coating to at least a portion of the upper surface of the base.
