Abstract
This document describes biochemical pathways for producing butadiene by forming two vinyl groups in a butadiene synthesis substrate. These pathways described herein rely on enzymes such as mevalonate diphosphate decarboxylase, isoprene synthase, and dehydratases for the final enzymatic step.

A method of converting a butenol into butadiene, said method comprising contacting 3-buten-2-ol with an enzyme polypeptide with the activity of a linalool dehydratase, wherein 1,3-butadiene is produced.
(canceled)
A recombinant host comprising at least one recombinant nucleic acid encoding:
- (i) an enzyme polypeptide with the activity of a hydratase in the EC 4.2.1.- family;
- and (ii) an enzyme polypeptide with the activity of a desaturase or a monooxygenase, said host producing 1,3-butadiene.
