Therapeutic ribonucleases

A composition comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding a ribonuclease having

• i) a human RNase 1 amino acid sequence with at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:1,
• ii) a cysteine at the position corresponding to position 4 of SEQ ID NO:1,
• iii) an arginine at the position corresponding to position 38 of SEQ ID NO:1,
• iv) a glycine at the position corresponding to position 39 of SEQ ID NO:1,
• v) an arginine at the position corresponding to position 67 of SEQ ID NO:1,
• vi) an arginine at the position corresponding to position 89 of SEQ ID NO:1,
• vii) an arginine at the position corresponding to position 90 of SEQ ID NO:1, and
• viii) a cysteine at the position corresponding to position 118 of SEQ ID NO:1.
