Abstract
A service provisioning enabled management in Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (SIEPON) switching subsystem. The delivery of network services to each of a plurality of subscribers coupled to an optical network unit (ONU) can be defined individually by the service provider. The service-specific functions within the ONU can be configured based on knowledge of the levels of provisioning of network services.

A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a switching subsystem in an optical network unit, an indication of a quality of service or service level agreement for a plurality of network services delivered by an optical line terminal to a corresponding plurality of subscribers that are coupled to said switching subsystem, wherein said plurality of network services are delivered by said optical line terminal to an optical interface in said optical network unit via an optical network cable;
- and
- configuring an operation of said switching subsystem based on said received indication of said quality of service or service level agreement.
A method, comprising:
- determining a level of provisioning of a network service delivered to a subscriber that is coupled to a switching subsystem in an optical network unit, wherein said service is delivered by an optical line terminal to an optical interface in said optical network unit via an optical fiber cable;
- and
- configuring an operation of said switching subsystem based on said determined level of provisioning.
An network unit, comprising:
- an access interface that is coupled to a line terminal via a point-to-multipoint cable distribution system;
- a plurality of network interfaces that are configured for coupling to a plurality of subscriber devices;
- a switching subsystem that is configured to deliver traffic received on said access interface from said line terminal to said plurality of network interfaces for delivery to said plurality of subscriber devices, wherein said delivery of traffic to each of said plurality of network interfaces is performed in accordance with a provisioned level of service that is defined for each of said plurality of network interfaces;
- and
- a controller that is designed to configure an operation of said switching subsystem based on said provisioned level of service for said plurality of network interfaces.
