Abstract
A bag has a front panel, a back panel, and a gusset panel. Either or both of the front panel and the gusset panel at one side has an extension, and either or both of the back panel and the gusset panel at the other side has an extension. The extensions are welded together at outer margins thereof so that the width of the combined extensions is greater than the width of the gusset panel. The extensions are formed with carrying apertures.
Claims28
A bag having a front panel, a back panel, and a gusset panel, all formed of plastic sheet material;
- the gusset panel having a first margin portion along one side and a second margin portion along an opposed side;
- the front panel having a third margin portion at one side thereof joining the first margin portion of the gusset panel at a first join,
- the back panel having a fourth margin portion at one side thereof, the fourth margin portion joining the second margin portion of the gusset panel at a second join,
- a first extension piece of sheet plastic material extending from the first join, and a second extension of sheet plastic material extending from the second join, the first extension piece having a third margin portion on a side thereof remote from the first join, the second extension piece having a fourth margin portion on a side thereof remote from the second join, the third and fourth margin portions joined together at a third join;
- each extension piece having a carrying aperture formed therein, the carrying apertures aligned with one another.
A bag and handle therefor formed of flexible sheet plastic material, the bag having a gusset panel having opposed side margins, the handle having a pair of wing sections, each wing section having opposed side margins, one side margin of each wing section joined to a respective side margin of the gusset panel, the other side margins of the wing sections joined to each other, the wing sections each having an aperture therein, the aperture in one wing section aligned with the aperture in the other wing section.
In a method of manufacturing a bag, folding a web of sheet plastic material to form first and second pages linked by a first fold, inserting a tuck at the fold to form second and third outwardly projecting folds and a fourth intermediate inwardly projecting fold, cutting the web at the second and third folds to separate the pages from each other and to form a folded strip having first and second wings extending from the fourth fold to respective edge regions of the strip, the folded strip located between, but separate from, the pages of the web, joining first regions of the wings to respective ones of the pages at first and second joins to form a gusset extending from the first join to the second join through the fourth fold, and joining the strip edge regions to each other at a third join to form a two-piece handle, the two pieces of the handle extending from the third join respectively to the first and second joins.
