Abstract
Certain aspects of an apparatus and method for automatic ER/PR scoring of tissue samples may include for determining a cancer diagnosis score comprising identifying a positive stained nucleus in a slide image of the tissue sample, identifying a negative stained nucleus in the slide image, computing a proportion score based on number of the positive stained nucleus identified and number of the negative stained nucleus identified and determining the cancer diagnosis score based on the proportion.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method for determination of a cancer diagnosis score of a tissue sample comprising:
- identifying a positive stained nucleus in a slide image of the tissue sample;
- identifying a negative stained nucleus in the slide image;
- computing a proportion score based on a number of the positive stained nucleus identified and number of the negative stained nucleus identified;
- and
- determining the cancer diagnosis score based on the computed proportion score.
A computer-implemented method for determination of a cancer diagnosis score of a stained tissue sample comprising:
- separating an area of interest in a slide image of the stained tissue sample into a positive stain image and a negative stain image;
- identifying a positive stained nucleus in positive stain image by image inverse processing of the positive stain image to generate an image inverse and by comparing the image inverse with an average pixel intensity of the positive stain image to output identified positive stained nuclei;
- identifying a negative stained nucleus in the negative stain image by image inverse processing of the negative stain image to generate an image inverse and develop therefrom location information for potential negative stained nuclei, by distance masking processing of the negative stain image to develop a mask image, and by combining of the mask image with the location information for potential negative stained nuclei to output identified negative stained nuclei;
- computing a proportion score based on a number of the positive stained nucleus identified and number of the negative stained nucleus identified;
- and
- determining the cancer diagnosis score based on the computed proportion score.
An apparatus for determining a cancer diagnosis score comprising:
- a positive nucleus identification module for identifying a positive stained nucleus in a slide image of the tissue sample;
- a negative nucleus identification module for identifying a negative stained nucleus in the slide image;
- a proportion scoring module for computing a proportion score based on number of the positive stained nucleus identified and number of the negative stained nucleus identified;
- and
- a scoring module for determining the cancer diagnosis score based on the proportion score.
