Abstract
The invention is directed to methods and systems of hyperspectral and multispectral imaging of medical tissues. In particular, the invention is directed to new devices, tools and processes for the detection and evaluation of diseases and disorders such as, but not limited to diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, that incorporate hyperspectral or multispectral imaging.

A method for displaying information obtained from medical multispectral or hyperspectral imaging comprising:
- at a computing system comprising one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs for execution by the one or more processors:
- obtaining a plurality of images of an in vivo tissue located at a region of interest on a subject, each respective image in the plurality of images resolved at a particular spectral band of radiation in a plurality of spectral bands, wherein corresponding pixels in each image in the plurality of images are co-registered into sets of co-registered pixels;
- deriving a coefficient for oxyhemoglobin (x) and a coefficient for deoxyhemoglobin (y) from each set of co-registered pixels in the plurality of images;
- generating, based on the plurality of images, an index of the in vivo tissue, wherein the index includes a representation of a concentration of oxyhemoglobin in the in vivo tissue, and a representation of a concentration of deoxyhemoglobin in the in vivo tissue;
- displaying the coefficient for oxyhemoglobin (x) and the coefficient for deoxyhemoglobin (y) from at least one set of co-registered pixels in the plurality of images independently with the index, thereby conveying spatial information about oxyhemoglobin concentration and deoxyhemoglobin concentration in the tissue.
A method for displaying information obtained from medical multispectral or hyperspectral imaging comprising:
- at a computing system comprising one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs for execution by the one or more processors:
- obtaining a plurality of images of an in vivo tissue located at a region of interest on a subject, each respective image in the plurality of images resolved at a particular spectral band of radiation in a plurality of spectral bands, wherein corresponding pixels in each image in the plurality of images form sets of co-registered pixels;
- deriving a coefficient for oxyhemoglobin and a coefficient for deoxyhemoglobin from each set of co-registered pixels in the plurality of images;
- generating, based on the plurality of images, an index of the in vivo tissue, wherein the index includes a representation of a concentration of oxyhemoglobin in the in vivo tissue and an indication of a concentration of deoxyhemoglobin in the in vivo tissue;
- displaying a sum of the coefficients for oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin (x+y) and a difference of the coefficients for oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin (x−y) from at least one set of co-registered pixels in the plurality of images independently with the index, thereby conveying spatial information about oxyhemoglobin concentration and deoxyhemoglobin concentration in the tissue.
