Abstract
A universal OFDM synchronizer for power line communication is provided. The universal OFDM synchronizer can be used for all known OFDM standards and allows maximum flexibility with best performance. The OFDM synchronizer comprises of a preamble averaging, a correlator and a peak discriminator. The OFDM synchronizer can be used with signals having 256 sample size preamble or 512 sample size preamble.
Claims17
An OFDM synchronizer for narrowband signals in powerline communication compatible with a preamble of all OFDM standards, comprising:
- a preamble averaging section to increase the SNR of signal when part of the preamble sections are identical;
- a correlator to generate a correlation metric for a narrowband signal by multiplying a stored local reference of the preamble with 256 samples, and the said correlator splits the preamble of 512 sample size into two halves of 256 samples each and stores it as two separate independent local references;
- and
- a peak discriminator to discriminate the peaks by generating a correlation score, the said peak discriminator shapes the correlation metric to get the maximum correlation by adding the few adjacent correlation results constructively.
A method for providing a universal synchronizer compatible with OFDM standards with varying preamble sizes, comprising:
- providing a correlator in the universal synchronizer that process a 256 sample preamble by multiplying and storing a reference copy of 256 sample based preamble;
- the said synchronizer segments a 512 sample based preamble into two 256 sample preambles and storing independent copies of the 256 sample preambles as two references.
