Apparatus and method for detecting a phase sequence in a vehicle

An apparatus for detecting a phase sequence in a vehicle, the apparatus comprising:

• a control module for being operatively coupled to a power grid for receiving an incoming power signal therefrom, the incoming power signal providing a first voltage and a second voltage in a vehicle, the control module being configured to:
• determine a phase difference between the first voltage and the second voltage;
• determine a signal frequency of the incoming signal to determine a country type for the power grid;
• and
• control a number of switching devices to generate an output voltage signal based on the phase difference and the signal frequency to charge at least one battery on the vehicle.

A method for detecting a phase sequence in a vehicle, the method comprising:

• receiving an incoming power signal from a power grid;
• providing a first voltage from the incoming power signal at a first sensing device;
• providing a second voltage from the incoming power signal at a second sensing device;
• determining a phase difference between the first voltage and the second voltage;
• and
• controlling a number of switching devices to generate an output voltage signal based on the phase difference to charge at least one battery on the vehicle.
