Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for performing a pro-active condensate clean-out of a charge air cooler. In response to condensate in a charge air cooler and engine operating conditions, airflow is increased to the intake manifold, purging condensate from the cooler. Engine actuators may also be adjusted to maintain torque demand during the clean-out procedure.
Claims20
An engine method, comprising:
- in response to a condensate level in a charge air cooler, increasing engine airflow greater than requested by a vehicle operator, without increasing engine torque by adjusting an engine actuator to maintain torque.
An engine method, comprising:
- increasing engine airflow from an initial level while a pedal position is maintained responsive to a condensate level in a charge air cooler being greater than a threshold level and the initial airflow level being below a blow-off level.
An engine system, comprising:
- an engine including an intake manifold;
- a compressor coupled to the intake manifold upstream of an intake throttle;
- a charge air cooler coupled downstream of the compressor;
- an accelerator pedal for receiving an operator torque request;
- and
- a controller with computer readable instructions for,
- while an accelerator pedal position is maintained,
- in response to an amount of condensate stored at the charge air cooler being higher than a threshold, increasing an opening of the intake throttle to increase air flow to the intake manifold while maintaining an engine torque.
