Abstract
Apparatus for moving logs (2) within cutting-off machines. The apparatus includes a platform (1) with one or more longitudinal channels (10) inside which the logs to be cut are disposed, and a pusher device (3) acting in correspondence of the platform (1) and intended for acting on the back of the logs (2) to push them, along respective guide channels (10), toward a cutting device (4) disposed downstream. The apparatus includes a clamping device (5) disposed intermediate between the pusher device (3) and the cutting device (4) and intended for engaging the logs (2) which are pushed along the channels (10) of platform (1) by the pusher device (3) and driving them along up to the cutting device (4).
Claims15
An apparatus for moving logs within cutting-off machines, the apparatus comprising:
- a cutting means for cutting uncut logs;
- a platform defining one or more longitudinal channels for receiving uncut logs;
- a pusher means movably mounted on said platform such that said pusher means moves between an initial position and an uncut log release position, said pusher means engaging a back end of the uncut logs in said initial position and pushing each uncut log along one of said one or more longitudinal channels toward said cutting means such that said pushing means moves from said initial position to said uncut log release position in a first direction, said first direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels, said cutting means being located downstream of said pusher means;
- a clamping means for clamping at least one portion of the uncut logs received from said one or more longitudinal channels of said platform with said pusher means in said uncut log release position and for driving the uncut logs to said cutting means, said clamping means being disposed between said pusher means and said cutting means, said pusher means moving from said uncut log release position to said initial position in a second direction with said clamping means clamping said at least one portion of the uncut logs such that said pusher means releases the uncut logs and said pusher means moves to said uncut log release position immediately upon clamping of said at least one portion of the uncut logs, said second direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels, said first direction being opposite said second direction.

A method for moving logs within cutting-off machines, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a platform having one or more defined longitudinal channels for receiving uncut logs;
- providing a pushing means movably mounted on said platform such that said pushing means moves between a starting position and an ending position;
- providing a cutting means located downstream of said pushing means for cutting the uncut logs;
- providing a clamping means for clamping one or more uncut logs received from said one or more longitudinal channels via said pushing means and for driving each uncut log toward said cutting means;
- moving said pushing means in a first direction from said starting position to said ending position such that said pushing means engages a back end portion of each uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels of said platform and moves said each uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels in a direction of said cutting means, said first direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels;
- holding at least one portion of the uncut logs with said clamping means with said pushing means in said ending position;
- moving said pushing means in a second direction from said ending position to said initial position immediately after said at least one portion of the uncut logs is held via said clamping means such that the uncut logs are released from said pushing means, said second direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels, said first direction being opposite said second direction, said pushing means moving exclusively in said first direction and said second direction;
- pulling each uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels with said clamping means after the uncut logs are pushed via said pushing means such that the uncut logs are driven to said cutting means.

A method for moving logs within cutting-off machines, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a platform having one or more defined longitudinal channels;
- providing at least one first uncut log in one of said one or more defined longitudinal channels;
- providing a pushing means movably mounted on said platform such that said pushing means moves between a starting position and an ending position;
- providing a cutting means located downstream of said pushing means for cutting one or more uncut logs;
- providing a clamping means for clamping one or more uncut logs received from said one or more longitudinal channels via said pushing means and for driving each uncut log toward said cutting means;
- moving said pushing means in a first direction from said starting position to said ending position such that said pushing means engages a back end portion of said at least one first uncut log located within said one of said one or more longitudinal channels of said platform and said pushing means moves said at least one first uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels in a direction of said cutting means, said first direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels;
- holding at least one portion of said at least one first uncut log with said clamping means with said pushing means in said ending position;
- moving said pushing means in a second direction from said ending position to said initial position immediately upon said at least one portion of said at least one first uncut log being held via said clamping means such that said at least one first uncut log is released from said pushing means, said second direction being defined by said one or more longitudinal channels, said first direction being opposite said second direction;
- pulling said at least one first uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels with said clamping means after said at least one first uncut log is pushed via said pushing means such that said at least one first uncut log is driven to said cutting means;
- providing at least one second uncut log in one of said one or more defined longitudinal channels after said pushing means is moved to said initial position and said at least one first uncut log is held by said clamping means;
- moving said pushing means in said first direction from said starting position to said ending position such that said pushing means engages a back end portion of said at least one second uncut log located within said one of said one or more longitudinal channels of said platform and said pushing means moves said at least one second uncut log located within one of said one or more longitudinal channels in a direction of said cutting means, wherein said back end portion of said at least one first uncut log is in contact with a front end portion of said at least one second uncut log.
