The invention is directed to a turbo-engine, particularly internal combustion engine, comprising a housing and therein a bladeless turbine section (30; 42; 67) of the stacked disc- or Tesla-type construction, wherein the turbine section (30; 42; 67) has a plurality of closely spaced discs (32; 49; 61) arranged for common rotation about a rotation axis in the housing, said turbine section (30; 42; 67) is adapted for passing with tangential flow components a working fluid stream from a radially inner region to a radially outer region of said turbine section (30; 42; 67) while adopting energy from said working fluid stream for rotating the discs (30; 49; 61). Preferably, the turbo-engine further comprises a compressor section (40; 66) of the stacked disc- or Tesla-type construction having a plurality of closely spaced discs (45; 61) arranged for common rotation about said rotation axis and a combustion zone (41; 64), wherein said compressor section (40; 66) being arranged coaxially with—and radially inwardly of the turbine section (30; 42; 67) with the combustion zone (41; 64) provided radially between the compressor section and the turbine section.

A turbo-engine comprising a housing and a bladeless turbine section of the stacked disc- or Tesla-type construction within the housing, wherein the turbine section comprises a plurality of closely spaced discs arranged for common rotation about a rotation axis in the housing, wherein the turbine section is adapted for passing with tangential flow components a working fluid stream from a radially inner region to a radially outer region of the turbine section while adopting energy from the working fluid stream for rotating the discs.
A method of operating a Tesla-type bladeless turbine which comprises a housing, a stack of closely spaced discs arranged for common rotation about a rotation axis in the housing and working fluid connection means near the radially inner region of the discs and the radially outer region of the discs, the method comprising introducing working fluid into the housing via the working fluid connection means near the radially inner region of the discs, wherein the working fluid is conducted away from the discs via the fluid connection means near the radially outer region of the discs after the working fluid has passed the discs from their radially inner region to their radially outer region with a tangentially flow component in order to impart energy from the working fluid to the discs for rotating the discs.
A rotor disc for use as a rotor disc in a bladeless Tesla-type engine, the rotor disc comprising uninterrupted tangentially wound fibers which are embedded in a polymer matrix material or a ceramic matrix.
A rotor for a bladeless Tesla-type engine, the rotor comprising a stack of closely spaced rotor discs and two axial end plates arranged on a common shaft, wherein the thickness of the end plates increases with radius in the axial direction, away from the disc stack.
