Block splitter assembly and method of producing wall blocks

A block splitter assembly comprising first lower and second upper opposed splitter blade assemblies,

• the first splitter blade assembly having a single first splitting blade configured to split a concrete workpiece and at least one first forming blade disposed to one side of the first splitting blade, the first forming blade having a single forming edge, the first splitting blade having a single splitting edge that is straight, at least a first portion of the forming edge having a longitudinal length that is straight and parallel to the splitting edge of the first splitting blade and at least a second portion of the forming edge having a length that is not parallel to the splitting edge of the first splitting blade,
• the second splitter blade assembly having a single second splitting blade configured to split a concrete workpiece and at least one second forming blade disposed to one side of the second splitting blade, the second forming blade having a single forming edge, the second splitting blade having a single splitting edge that is straight, at least a first portion of the forming edge having a longitudinal length that is straight and parallel to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade and at least a second portion of the forming edge having a length that is not parallel to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade, and
• the splitting edge of the first splitting blade being opposed to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade.

A method of splitting and forming a concrete workpiece comprising:

• (i) providing a block splitter assembly comprising first lower and second upper opposed splitter blade assemblies,
• the first splitter blade assembly having a single first splitting blade configured to split a concrete workpiece and at least one first forming blade disposed to one side of the first splitting blade, the first forming blade having a single forming edge, the first splitting blade having a single splitting edge that is straight, at least a first portion of the forming edge having a longitudinal length that is straight and parallel to the splitting edge of the first splitting blade and at least a second portion of the forming edge having a length that is not parallel to the splitting edge of the first splitting blade,
• the second splitter blade assembly having a single second splitting blade configured to split a concrete workpiece and at least one second forming blade disposed to one side of the second splitting blade, the second forming blade having a single forming edge, the second splitting blade having a single splitting edge that is straight, at least a first portion of the forming edge having a longitudinal length that is straight and parallel to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade and at least a second portion of the forming edge having a length that is not parallel to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade, and
• the splitting edge of the first splitting blade being opposed to the splitting edge of the second splitting blade;
• (ii) placing a concrete workpiece in the block splitter assembly at a splitting position to be engaged by the first and second splitter blade assemblies;
• and
• (iii) with the workpiece at the splitting position, engaging the first and second splitter blade assemblies with the workpiece and thereby splitting and forming the workpiece.
