## Abstract

This invention relates to a hollow fishing rod assembly with an inventive mounting block that spaces a hollow rod apart from a fishing reel seat such that when the fishing reel is mounted to the seat the fishing line orifice of the reel is axially aligned with the core of the hollow fishing rod. The mounting bracket may be hinged so that the line opening of the fishing rod is moved above the fishing reel for easy access and threading of new or replacement fishing line through the rod.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A fishing rod assembly comprising: a hollow fishing rod, a fishing reel seat, a fishing reel and a mounting bracket, the fishing rod having a fishing line opening and a spaced apart fishing line exit, and the fishing reel has a fishing line orifice, and the mounting bracket includes a top rod mounting tube into which the hollow fishing rod is mounted and a spaced apart lower reel seat mounting tube into which the reel seat is mounted and wherein the top rod mounting tube and lower reel seat mounting tube are spaced apart a predetermined distance so that the fishing line orifice of the reel is axially aligned with the fishing line opening of the hollow rod.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 1, further comprising a hinge mechanism within the mounting bracket whereby the top rod mounting tube can be pivoted generally forward with respect to the fishing reel seat.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 2, wherein the hinge mechanism further comprises an upwardly projecting tang fixed to the lower reel seat mounting tube, a hinge bracket depending from the top rod mounting tube, and a through pin fixed through the tang and the hinge bracket about which the top rod mounting tube can be pivoted.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 2, further comprising a retention pin bore through the hinge mechanism of the mounting block and a retention pin moveably positioned within the retention pin bore such that when the retention pin is fully engaged within the retention pin bore, the hinge mechanism is prevented from pivoting and upon limited linear retraction of the retention pin the hinge mechanism is allowed to pivot.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 4, wherein the retention pin bore passes through the tang of the lower reel seat mounting tube and the hinge bracket of the top rod mounting tube.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 1, further comprising a closeable compartment formed within the mounting bracket.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 1 wherein the hollow fishing rod is a golf club shaft.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 7 wherein the fishing reel seat is connected to a handle formed from a golf club grip.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 2 wherein the hollow fishing rod is a golf club shaft.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 9 wherein the fishing reel seat is connected to a handle formed from a golf club grip.

### Claim 11

A fishing rod assembly comprising: a fishing rod, a fishing reel seat, a fishing reel having a fishing line orifice and a mounting bracket, the fishing rod having a fishing line opening, a spaced apart fishing line exit and a core therebetween; and the mounting bracket includes a top rod mounting tube into which the hollow fishing rod is mounted and a spaced apart lower reel seat mounting tube into which the reel seat is mounted; the top rod mounting tube and lower reel seat mounting tube are spaced apart a predetermined distance so that the fishing line orifice of the fishing reel is axially aligned with the fishing line opening of the hollow rod and wherein the mounting bracket includes a hinge mechanism between the top rod mounting tube and the lower reel seat mounting tube that allows the top rod mounting tube to pivot generally upward from the fishing reel seat for access to the core of the fishing rod.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 11 wherein the hollow fishing rod is a golf club shaft.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The fishing rod assembly of claim 12 wherein the fishing reel seat is connected to a handle formed from a golf club grip.
