Abstract
A surgical implant device capable of conforming to a variety of surface topographies facilitates the growth and regeneration of site to which the device is applied. The device employs a plurality of elongate members supporting a column of discrete, rotatable elements in contact with each adjacent element. Anchor plates secure the respective ends of the elongate members, such anchor plates attachable to bone. The implant device provides and ordered array of individually rotatable elements to form a surface that permits bodily fluids to pass therethough.
Claims20
A surgical implant device comprising:
- a plurality of elongate wire members having first and second ends, said members spaced generally parallel to each other to form adjacent rows;
- a plurality of generally arcuate members provided on said plurality of elongate wire members;
- the generally arcuate members comprising a planar portion and an arcuate portion, the planar portion provided substantially perpendicular to the arcuate portion;
- wherein a first arcuate member comprises a first through hole and a second through hole, a first elongate wire member provided through said first through hole and a second elongate wire member provided through the second through hole;
- wherein a second arcuate member comprises a first through hole and a second through hole, said second elongate wire member provided through said first through hole such that the second through hole of the first arcuate member is substantially adjacent the first through hole of the second arcuate member;
- wherein said plurality of elongate wire members and plurality of generally arcuate members form a mesh-like surface structure that permits liquids to flow therethrough, said plurality of elongate wire members being spaced parallel to each other and extending substantially parallel to a first anchor plate and a second anchor plate, said plurality of generally arcuate members being rotatable about said wires, and wherein said generally arcuate members resist compression forces in a first orientation and provides flexibility in an a second orientation that is 90° from said first orientation, said first orientation extending along an axis parallel to the plurality of elongate wire members.
A surgical implant device comprising:
- a plurality of elongate wire members having first and second ends, said members spaced generally parallel to each other to form adjacent rows;
- a plurality of generally arcuate members provided on each of said plurality of elongate wire members, wherein the generally arcuate members comprise first and second opposing planar portions substantially perpendicular to an arcuate peripheral portion;
- wherein said plurality of elongate wire members extend substantially perpendicularly to the arcuate peripheral portion and the plurality of generally arcuate members form a mesh-like surface structure that permits liquids to flow therethrough, said plurality of elongate wire members being spaced parallel to each other and to a first anchor plate and a second anchor plate;
- said plurality of generally arcuate members being rotatable about said wires, and being in a stacked arrangement where the first planar portion of a first generally arcuate member is disposed proximal the second planar portion of a second generally planar portion;
- wherein said generally uniformly shaped members resist compression forces in a first orientation and provides flexibility in an a second orientation that is 90° from said first orientation;
- and
- wherein the arcuate members are adapted to be wrapped around at least a portion of a circumference of a bone to secure a fracture site of said bone.
A surgical implant device comprising:
- a plurality of elongate members having first and second ends, said members spaced generally parallel to each other to form adjacent rows;
- a first anchor plate attaching to at least one of the plurality of elongate members;
- a second anchor plate attaching to at least one of the plurality of elongate members;
- a plurality of generally uniformly shaped members interconnected to the plurality of elongate members, wherein a first uniformly shaped member has a first end and a second end, and a first aperture proximal to said first end and a second aperture proximal to said second end, said first aperture receiving one of said plurality of elongate members therethrough, and said second aperture receiving a second elongate member;
- wherein said plurality of elongate members and plurality of generally uniformly shaped members form a mesh-like surface structure that permits liquids to flow therethrough, said plurality of elongate members being spaced parallel to each other with at least two of said plurality of elongate members being affixed to said first anchor plate, said plurality of generally uniformly shaped members being rotatable about at least two of said plurality of elongate members, said plurality of generally uniformly shaped members being in a stacked arrangement that resists compression forces in a first orientation and being in axial relationship to said elongate members.
