Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention use melamine-based resins as a pretreatment on fabrics and fabric blends in combination with phosphorus-based flame retardants to improve flame retardant performance, durability, and further promote char formation in a combustion zone of the fabric.
Claims21
A flame retardant fabric produced by a process comprising:
- applying a melamine-based compound to a fabric;
- applying a phosphorous-based compound to the fabric;
- and
- fixing the melamine-based compound and phosphorous-based compound as a flame retardant in the fabric.

A flame retardant fabric comprising between 0 and 52 percent nylon and a halogen-free flame retardant comprising a phosphorous-based compound in the fabric.
