Abstract
Systems and methods for detecting Input/Output (I/O) device connection are described herein. The method includes physically coupling an I/O device to a host port through a first signal line and a second signal line. The method also includes driving the first signal line or the second signal line high via an active buffer of the I/O device. The method also includes providing an acknowledgement signal from the host to the device through the other signal line that is not being driven high by the active buffer of the I/O device.

A universal serial bus downstream port, comprising:
- a physical layer to be coupled to a first signal line and a second signal line;
- logic to detect a connection with an upstream port, wherein the logic to detect the connection with the upstream port is to detect whether the first signal line or the second signal line is driven by the upstream port;
- and
- logic to provide, upon detection of the connection with the upstream port, an acknowledgement signal to the upstream port through one of the first signal line and the second signal line.
A universal serial bus upstream port, comprising:
- a physical layer to be coupled to a first signal line and a second signal line;
- logic to drive the first signal line and/or the second signal line to identify a date rate for a connection to be made between the universal serial bus upstream port and a downstream port;
- and
- logic to receive an acknowledgement signal from the downstream port through one of the first signal line and the second signal line.
A method comprising:
- detecting a universal serial bus connection with an upstream port, wherein the detecting detects whether a first signal line or a second signal line is driven by the upstream port;
- and
- providing, upon detection of the connection with the upstream port, an acknowledgement signal to the upstream port through one of the first signal line and the second signal line.
A method comprising:
- driving a first signal line and/or the second signal line to identify a date rate for a connection to be made between a universal serial bus upstream port and a downstream port;
- and
- receiving an acknowledgement signal from the downstream port through one of the first signal line and the second signal line.
