Abstract
Methods, devices, and storage mediums resolve uniform resource identifiers to Internet protocol addresses based on various criteria. Additionally, uniform resource identifiers are resolved to Internet protocol addresses based on Application-Layer Traffic Optimization information and domain name system policies.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a name server, a virtual domain name system request that includes one or multiple criteria to resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address;
- resolving, by the name server, the Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address based on the one or multiple criteria;
- generating, by the name server, a virtual domain name system response that includes the resolved Internet Protocol address;
- and
- transmitting, by the name server, the virtual domain name system response to a device.
A method comprising:
- storing, by the name server, policies pertaining to resolving Uniform Resource Identifiers to Internet Protocol addresses;
- receiving, by a name server, a virtual domain name system request;
- resolving, by the name server, a Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address based on one or more of the policies;
- generating, by the name server, a virtual domain name system response that includes the resolved Internet Protocol address;
- and
- transmitting, by the name server, the virtual domain name system response to a device.
The method of claim 5, wherein the policies include one or more policies pertaining to when a device from which the virtual domain name system request originates is an internal device in relation to the name server, when the device from which the virtual domain name system request originates is an external device in relation to the name server, an access restriction for one or more Uniform Resource Identifiers, a latency pertaining to a time period in which the Uniform Resource Identifier to the Internet Protocol address is resolved, and a generation of new sub-domains.
A network device, comprising:
- a communication interface;
- a memory to store instructions;
- and
- a processor to execute the instructions to:
- receive, via the communication interface, a virtual domain name system request that includes one or multiple criteria to resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address;
- resolve the Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address based on the one or multiple criteria;
- generate a virtual domain name system response that includes the resolved Internet Protocol address;
- and
- transmit, via the communication interface, the virtual domain name system response to a device.
A network device comprising:
- a communication interface;
- a memory to store instructions;
- and
- a processor to execute the instructions to:
- store policies pertaining to a resolution of Uniform Resource Identifiers to Internet Protocol addresses;
- receive, via the communication interface, a virtual domain name system request;
- resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address based on one or more of the policies;
- generate a virtual domain name system response that includes the resolved Internet Protocol address;
- and
- transmit, via the communication interface, the virtual domain name system response to a device.
A non-transitory storage medium storing instructions executable by a computational device, wherein the instructions comprise instructions to:
- receive a domain name system request;
- obtain one or multiple criteria to resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier included in the domain name system request;
- resolve the Uniform Resource Identifier to an Internet Protocol address based on the one or multiple criteria;
- generate a domain name system response that includes the resolved Internet Protocol address;
- and
- transmit the domain name system response to a domain name system client device.
