Abstract
A method of augmenting or reconstructing a breast of a patient, the method comprising the step of implanting into the patient, a breast prosthesis, having surface characteristics directed at reducing collagen alignment in periprosthetic tissue.
Claims16
A method of augmenting or reconstructing soft tissue of a patient, the method comprising the step of:
- implanting into the patient, a prosthesis comprising a non-resorbable, open cell material characterized in that, when a one centimeter disc of a test material identical to the material is implanted subcutaneously in a Sprague Dawley rat using standard procedures, periprosthetic tissue forms adjacent the test material, and at least six weeks following the subcutaneous implantation, the periprosthetic tissue has a characteristic that at least 22% of collagen fibers of the periprosthetic tissue are non-aligned with respect to a major planar surface defined by the test material.
A method of augmenting or reconstructing a breast of a patient, the method comprising the step of:
- implanting into the patient, a prosthesis comprising a non-resorbable, open cell material characterized in that, when a one centimeter disc of a test material identical to the material is implanted subcutaneously in a Sprague Dawley rat using standard procedures, periprosthetic tissue forms adjacent the material, and at least six weeks following the subcutaneous implantation, the periprosthetic tissue has an adherence force of at least 6 Newtons.
