Abstract
The present invention provides pladin (plasma anti-diabetic nucb2 peptide) polypeptide and functional equivalent thereof that are useful for treating diabetes. The present invention provides a method of treating diabetes by administering to a subject nesfatin-1, pladin, or a functional equivalent thereof. The present invention also provides a method of treating diabetes by administering to subject plasmin inhibitors.

A method of reducing triglyceride, total cholesterol or LDL in blood, comprising the step of administering to the subject a composition comprising an effective amount of a polypeptide selected from the group consisting of nesfatin-1, pladin (plasma anti-diabetic nucb2 peptide), or a functional equivalent thereof.
A method of reducing triglyceride, total cholesterol or LDL in blood, comprising the step of administering to a subject an effective amount of a plasmin inhibitor, wherein the plasmin inhibitor would increase peripheral nesfatin-1 or pladin (plasma anti-diabetic nucb2 peptide).
