Abstract
The invention relates to the detection and quantification of 1-benzylpiperazine and its metabolites. The invention is underpinned by novel polyclonal antibodies with unique binding properties which enable immunoassay methods and kits for various applications.
Claims19
An immunogen having the general formula (0):
- wherein
- (a) accm is an antigenicity conferring carrier material;
- and
- (b) crosslinker is a molecule attaching the accm to either
- (i) the aromatic ring moiety;
- or
- (ii) the piperazine moiety of the immunogen.

A method of detecting or determining one or more of 1-benzylpiperazine (BZP), 4-OH benzylpiperazine (4-OH-BZP;
- p-OH-BZP), 3-(Piperazin-1ylmethyl)phenol, 1-Piperonylpiperazine, and N-(3-Methylbenzyl)piperazine;
- the method comprising
- (a) contacting a sample with
- (i) an antibody capable of binding one or more of 1-benzylpiperazine (BZP), 4-OH benzylpiperazine (4-OH-BZP;
- p-OH-BZP), 3-(Piperazin-1ylmethyl)phenol, 1-Piperonylpiperazine, and N-(3-Methylbenzyl)piperazine;
- and
- (ii) a detecting agent;
- and
- (b) attributing the presence or amount of the detecting agent to the presence or amount of one or more of 1-benzylpiperazine (BZP), 4-OH benzylpiperazine (4-OH-BZP;
- p-OH-BZP), 3-(Piperazin-1ylmethyl)phenol, 1-Piperonylpiperazine, and N-(3-Methylbenzyl)piperazine in the sample.
