Abstract
An alkaline storage cell comprises a positive electrode including a cobalt additive and nickel hydroxide particles that have been covered by a cobalt compound film layer, and a negative electrode including a hydrogen-absorbing alloy that contains nickel and cobalt. The positive electrode has a capacitance V, the negative electrode has a capacitance W, the cobalt additive is cobalt metal or a cobalt compound, the positive electrode contains X mass % of the cobalt additive, the cobalt is included by Y mass % in the hydrogen-absorbing alloy, and X, Y, V, and W satisfy the relationship 1.1≦(X/Y)×(W/V)≦1.91.
Claims5
An alkaline storage battery comprising:
- a cathode including nickel hydroxide particles coated with a cobalt compound coating layer, and a cobalt additive;
- and
- an anode including a hydrogen-absorbing alloy that contains nickel and cobalt,
- wherein
- the cathode has a capacity V,
- the anode has a capacity W,
- the cobalt additive is metal cobalt or a cobalt compound,
- the cobalt additive is contained at X % by mass in the cathode,
- the cobalt is contained at Y % by mass in the hydrogen-absorbing alloy, and
- X, Y, V, and W satisfy 1.1≦(X/Y)×(W/V)≦1.91.
A method of manufacturing an alkaline storage battery including a cathode, which includes nickel hydroxide particles coated with a cobalt compound coating layer, and a cobalt additive, and an anode, which includes a hydrogen-absorbing alloy that contains nickel and cobalt, the method comprising:
- adding metal cobalt or a cobalt compound as the cobalt additive to the nickel hydroxide particles coated with the cobalt compound coating layer to prepare the cathode having a capacity V and containing X % by mass of the cobalt additive;
- preparing the anode having a capacity W from the hydrogen-absorbing alloy, with the hydrogen-absorbing alloy containing Y % by mass of the cobalt;
- and
- a preprocessing step of respectively setting X, Y, V, and W to satisfy 1.1≦(X/Y)×(W/V)≦1.91 before the preparing the cathode and the preparing the anode.
