Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for generating vacuum from crankcase ventilation flow. During both directions of gas flow between an engine intake manifold and a crankcase, gases are directed through one or more aspirators to produce vacuum. The drawn vacuum may then be used to operate various engine vacuum actuators.
Claims24
An engine method comprising,
- flowing gasses, in both directions, through a positive crankcase ventilation line between an intake manifold and a crankcase via a variable venturi to generate vacuum at the venturi.
An engine method comprising,
- directing only crankcases gasses to a motive flow inlet of a venturi coupled in an engine intake system to generate vacuum at the venturi.
An engine method comprising,
- during a first direction of crankcase ventilation flow, directing crankcase gasses through a first, uni-directional aspirator coupled between a crankcase and an intake manifold;
- and
- during a second, opposite direction of crankcase ventilation flow, directing at least intake air through a second, bi-directional aspirator coupled between the crankcase and the intake manifold.
A system, comprising:
- an engine intake system including an intake manifold and a crankcase,
- a first and a second aspirator coupled between the intake manifold and the crankcase;
- a valve coupled to the first aspirator;
- and
- a controller with computer readable instructions for,
- during engine idle conditions, flowing crankcase gasses in a first direction from the crankcase to the intake manifold through the first aspirator;
- during engine non-idle conditions, flowing at least intake air in a second, opposite direction from the intake manifold to the crankcase through the second aspirator;
- and
- during both conditions, drawing vacuum from the first or second aspirator.
