Door closer system

A door system, comprising

• a doorway including a door and a door closer system mechanically coupled to said door;
• said door closer system includes a motor, a control circuit connected to said motor, and a power storage device connected to said motor and said control circuit;
• said door closer system further including a spring that compresses when said door is opening and expands when said door is closing, wherein said spring is mechanically coupled to said motor through a gear set;
• wherein said motor rotates in a first direction in response to expanding of said spring to generate electrical energy that is stored in said power storage device;
• and
• wherein said control circuit is configured to discharge electrical energy from said power storage device to rotate said motor in said first direction to close said door.

A method comprising:

• opening a door coupled to a spring, thereby compressing said spring;
• releasing said door and allowing said spring to expand to initiate closing of said door;
• generating electricity with a motor operable in response to compression and expansion of said spring during opening and closing said door;
• storing said electricity in a storage device;
• rotating said motor with said electricity to close said door.
