Endoluminal filter

An untethered filter having a longitudinal axis, comprising:

• a first elongate member having a first spiral section and a second spiral section that together complete about one full revolution around the filter longitudinal axis, wherein the first elongate member is untethered;
• a second elongate member having a first spiral section and a second spiral section that together complete about one full revolution around the filter longitudinal axis, wherein the second elongate member is untethered;
• a filter first end formed where a portion of the first spiral section of the first elongate member is joined to a portion of the first spiral section of the second elongate member;
• a filter second end formed where a portion of the second spiral section of the first elongate member is joined to a portion of the second spiral section of the second elongate member;
• and
• a material capture structure formed from individual elements extending between the first spiral sections and across the filter longitudinal axis, wherein the material capture structure formed by the individual filaments remains substantially within a plane defined by the first spiral sections.
