Abstract
A method for handling of conflicts in a multicast routing election in a multicast network is described herein. The multicast network includes a plurality of multicast network devices. A conflict is detected in a Designated Forwarder (DF) election for a link.
Claims15
A method for handling of conflicts in a multicast routing election in a multicast network, the multicast network including a plurality of multicast network devices, the method comprising:
- receiving a packet by a first network device of the plurality of multicast network devices;
- determining whether the packet is a Designated Forwarder (DF) election winner message;
- determining whether a conflict in a DF election is detected for a link, upon determining that the packet is a DF election winner message;
- and
- disabling a DF routing capability of the first network device upon detection of the conflict.
A method for handling of conflicts in a multicast routing election in a multicast network, the multicast network including a plurality of multicast network devices, the method comprising:
- detecting, by a first network device of the plurality of multicast network devices, a Designated Forwarder (DF) election winner message;
- detecting a conflict in a DF election for a link;
- determining an interface through which the DF election winner message was received on ingress, wherein the interface is associated with a Rendezvous Point Address (RPA);
- removing the interface from a list of routable egress interfaces in the first network device;
- and
- routing, by the first network device, network traffic using the list of routable interfaces.
A method for handling of conflicts in a multicast routing election in a multicast network, the multicast network including a plurality of multicast network devices, the method comprising:
- receiving a packet by a first network device of the plurality of multicast network devices, wherein the first network device is a blade of a plurality of blades in a chassis;
- determining the packet is a Designated Forwarder (DF) election winner message;
- detecting a conflict in a DF election for a link based on the DF election winner message;
- and
- disabling a DF routing capability of the first network device upon detection of the conflict.
