Abstract
Producing protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of a plurality of protocol layers is disclosed. The PDUs are concatenated and may each come from different priorities or different queues. A header may be added to the concatenated PDUs, using a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer, to form a multiplexed PDU. The header may indicate a size of each of the PDUs.
Claims32
A method performed by a network device, the method comprising:
- producing, by the network device, protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of a plurality of protocol layers;
- concatenating, by the network device, the PDUs using a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer from the plurality of protocol layers, wherein the PDUs include PDUs having different priorities and PDUs from different queues;
- attaching, by the network device, a header to the concatenated PDUs using the MAC protocol layer to form a multiplexed PDU and wherein the header includes an indication of a size of each of the PDUs;
- and
- sending, by the network device, the multiplexed PDU to a mobile station on a downlink channel.
A network device comprising:
- circuitry configured to produce protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of a plurality of protocol layers;
- circuitry configured to concatenate the PDUs using a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer from the plurality of protocol layers, wherein the PDUs include PDUs having different priorities and PDUs from different queues;
- circuitry configured to attach a header to the concatenated PDUs using the MAC protocol layer to form a multiplexed PDU and wherein the header includes an indication of a size of each of the PDUs;
- and
- circuitry configured to send the multiplexed PDU to a mobile station on a downlink channel.
A user equipment (UE) comprising:
- circuitry configured to receive a downlink transmission over a downlink channel, wherein the downlink transmission includes a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU);
- circuitry configured to recover the MAC PDU, wherein the MAC PDU has a header and concatenated protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of a plurality of protocol layers;
- wherein the concatenated PDUs include PDUs having different priorities and PDUs from different queues;
- and
- wherein the header includes an indication of a size of each of the PDUs.
A method performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
- receiving, by the UE, a downlink transmission over a downlink channel, wherein the downlink transmission includes a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU);
- recovering, by the UE, the MAC PDU;
- wherein the MAC PDU has a header and concatenated protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of the plurality of protocol layers;
- wherein the concatenated PDUs include PDUs having different priorities and PDUs from different queues;
- and
- wherein the header includes an indication of a size of each of the PDUs.
A method performed by a wireless network, the method comprising:
- producing, by the wireless network, protocol data units (PDUs) from a first protocol layer of a plurality of protocol layers;
- concatenating, by the wireless network, the PDUs using a medium access control (MAC) protocol layer from the plurality of protocol layers, wherein the PDUs include PDUs having different priorities and PDUs from different queues;
- attaching, by the wireless network, a header to the concatenated PDUs using the MAC protocol layer to form a multiplexed PDU and wherein the header includes an indication of a size of each of the PDUs;
- and
- sending, by the wireless network, the multiplexed PDU to a mobile station on a downlink channel.
