Abstract
Methods and systems to update information of a device description of a field instrument are described. In one example, a method involves comparing a host revision of the device description executed via a host application to an instrument revision of the device description of the field instrument, generating a character string of update information based on the comparison, the character string containing the update information, and displaying the character string via the host application.
Claims20
A method to provide update information of a device description of a field instrument, comprising:
- comparing a host revision of the device description executed via a host application to an instrument revision of the device description corresponding to the field instrument;
- generating a character string of update information based on the comparison;
- and
- displaying the character string via the host application.
A tangible article of manufacture storing machine readable instructions, which when executed, cause a machine to at least:
- compare a host revision of a device description of a field instrument executed via a host application to an instrument revision of the device description corresponding to the field instrument;
- generate a character string based on the comparison, the character string containing the update information;
- and
- display the character string via the host application.
A system, comprising:
- a field instrument associated with an instrument revision of a device description for the field instrument;
- and
- a process control system host application to execute a host revision of the device description to enable interactions between the host application and the field instrument, wherein the field instrument is to compare the host and instrument revisions of the device description to generate a character string based on the comparison;
- and
- a display to render the character string via a user interface.
A system as described in claim 19, wherein the character string contains update information regarding the host revision of the device description
A system as described in claim 21, wherein the update information includes at least one of an indication of whether the host revision of the device description is up to date, a summary of the differences between the host and instrument revisions of the device description if the host revision is not up to date, or a website address where additional information regarding the device description is available.
