## Abstract

Communication from enterprise servers to handheld devices in the field supports dispatch, data synchronization, logistics and personnel. Bi-directional data delivery from enterprise-based servers over wireless data networks is enabled using wireless capabilities resident in handheld personal computing devices. Real time communications facilitates real-time access to remote programs, assistance and/or information related to the field operations and asset (personnel and inventory) resource management. Management is facilitated for at least one of: construction industry project analysis, HVAC system analysis, project management, equipment readiness inspection, troubleshooting, inventory tracking, inventory ordering, sales (e.g., providing cost estimates to customers), customer invoicing, conducting legal investigations, field data collection, and multi-user remote function coordination.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method, comprising:
executing a field assessment program on a handheld device, the field assessment program configured to enable assessment of a job;
collecting data associated with the job in response to prompts from the field assessment program;
rendering the collected data using the handheld device; and
providing the assessment of the job in response to the rendering.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein collecting the data associated with the job in response to the prompts comprises collecting structural characteristics of a building associated with the job, intended use information for the building associated with the job, marketing data associated with the job, or payment information associated with the job.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising automatically determining a location of the job using the handheld device.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein automatically determining the location comprises using a GPS device in the handheld device.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising wirelessly downloading the field assessment program from a server.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the handheld device is geographically distant from the server.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein collecting the data associated with the job in response to the prompts comprises wirelessly transmitting the collected data from the handheld device to a server.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising synchronizing the collected data with other data downloaded from the server using the handheld device.

### Claim 9

A device, comprising:
a memory device configured to store instructions; and
a processing device configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device to:
download a field assessment program configured to enable an assessment of a job from a server;
execute the field assessment program;
collect data associated with the job in response to prompts from the field assessment program;
render the collected data; and
provide the assessment of the job in response to the rendering.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the processing device is configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device further to collect structural characteristics of a building associated with the job, intended use information for the building associated with the job, marketing data associated with the job, or payment information associated with the job.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the processing device is configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device further to automatically determine a location of the job using a GPS device.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the processing device is configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device further to wirelessly download the field assessment program from the server.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The device of claim 9, wherein the processing device is configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device further to wirelessly transmit the collected data to the server.

### Claim 14

A method, comprising:
accessing, at a beginning of a work shift using a handheld device, at least one template stored on a server located remotely from the handheld device, the at least one template listing tasks assigned to be completed before an end of the work shift;
reporting a status of each of the tasks at least once during the work shift by synchronizing the handheld device to the server; and
updating the at least one template in response to the status with unfinished or new tasks.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14,
wherein the at least one template corresponds to a worker; and
wherein the worker is to complete the tasks before the end of the work shift.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, further comprising triggering generating at least another template corresponding to at least another worker in response to the updating, wherein the at least another template lists tasks assigned to the at least another worker to be completed by the at least another worker before an end of a work shift corresponding to the at least another worker.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein reporting the status of each of the tasks comprises wirelessly synchronizing the handheld device to the server.

### Claim 18

A device, comprising:
a memory device configured to store instructions; and
a processing device configured to execute the instructions stored in the memory device to:
access, at a beginning of a work shift, at least one template stored on a server located remotely from the device, the at least one template listing tasks assigned to be completed before an end of the work shift;
