## Abstract

A composite floor-covering comprising a fabric face layer, a barrier layer and a cushion backing layer is disclosed. The fabric face layer is attached to the barrier layer by a first adhesive layer and the barrier layer is attached to the cushion backing layer by a second adhesive layer. The fabric face layer on the composite floor covering can stretch up to an initial amount under a first pressure and can stretch beyond under a second pressure wherein the second pressure is higher than the first pressure. The composite floor-covering has a water vapor transmission rate of less than about 5.0 cm3/m2/24 hour at 100° F. and 90% RH.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A composite floor-covering comprising
a fabric face layer;
a barrier layer; and
a cushion backing layer;
wherein the fabric face layer is attached to the barrier layer by a first adhesive layer and the barrier layer is attached to the cushion backing layer by a second adhesive layer,
wherein the fabric face layer on the composite floor covering can stretch up to about 25% under a first pressure and can stretch beyond about 25% under a second pressure wherein the second pressure is higher than the first pressure, and
wherein the composite floor-covering has a water vapor transmission rate of less than about 5.0 cm3/m2/24 hr at 100° F. and 90% RH.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the fabric face layer can stretch up to about 10% under the first pressure and can stretch beyond about 10% under the second pressure.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the water vapor transmission rate of the barrier layer is less than about 4.0 cm3/m2/24 hr at 100° F. and 90% RH.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The composite floor-covering of claim 3, wherein the water vapor transmission rate of the barrier layer is less than about 3.0 cm3/m2/24 hr at 100° F. and 90% RH.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the composite floor-covering has an oxygen transmission rate of at least about 1.5 cm3/m2/24 hr at 73° F. and 50% RH.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The composite floor-covering of claim 5, wherein the oxygen transmission rate is at least about 3.0 cm3/m2/24 hr at 73° F. and 50% RH.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The composite floor-covering of claim 6, wherein the oxygen transmission rate is at least about 4.0 cm3/m2/24 hr at 73° F. and 50% RH,

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the barrier layer comprises polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC).

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the barrier layer comprises a polyvinylidene chloride layer between a top and bottom layer of polyethylene or polyethylene-vinylacetate.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein a first interface between the fabric face layer and the barrier layer is substantially planar.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein a second interface between the barrier layer and the cushion backing layer is substantially planar.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1 further comprising a reinforced layer, wherein the reinforced layer does not substantially change the water vapor transmission rate of the composite floor-covering.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein the fabric face layer is a non-pile fabric face layer.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein an amount of water dropped from a height of about 1 meter or less remains above the barrier layer for at least 24 hours.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein a liquid repellant material is applied to the fabric face layer.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The composite floor-covering of claim 1, wherein a top side of the face layer is textured.
