A method for treating a disorder in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of an inhibitor of a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or 3, or a functional equivalent thereof, wherein the disorder is an inflammation-related disorder or myelodysplastic syndromes.

A method of assessing a subject's cancer prognosis, the method comprising:
- obtaining a biological sample from the subject;
- and
- determining (i) the presence of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:
- 1 in the sample, or (ii) the expression level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:
- 1 in the sample,
- wherein (i) the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the gene is present on both chromosomes or to have a bad prognosis if the gene missing from one of the chromosomes, or (ii) the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the expression level is above a control level or to have a bad prognosis if the expression level is below the control level.

A method of diagnosing myelodysplastic syndromes or systemic lupus erythematosus in a subject, the method comprising:
- obtaining a biological sample from the subject;
- and
- determining the expression level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:

- wherein the subject is determined to have or be prone to develop myelodysplastic syndromes or systemic lupus erythematosus if the expression level is above a control level.
