## Abstract

An improved lath is disclosed having a water drainage layer provided in association with the lath. The water drainage layer serves to remove water that might otherwise build up between the lath and wall structure.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A construct for use in supporting a wall structure, comprising:
a lath member,
a water channel material having a front side and a back side defining a width therebetween, said width being generally filled in cross-section with elements that separately or as a unitary whole span said width so as to define a circuitous path for water passing through said width from a top to a bottom thereof,
a plurality of spacers between said lath member and said water channel material,
said lath member, spacers and water channel material being provided as a unitary whole.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The construct of claim 1, wherein said water channel material is a mat of non-absorbent fibrous material.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The construct of claim 2, further including a scrim layer between said lath member and said water channel material.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The construct of claim 3, wherein said scrim layer is adhered to said water channel material.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The construct of claim 1, wherein said lath member is a plastic material having substantially rigid thin diameter filaments extending generally parallel to one another joined together by crossparts into a matrix, said matrix further being formed with an undulating surface shape of peaks and valleys.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The construct of claim 2, wherein said spacers are a self-sealing material.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The construct of claim 1, wherein said unitary whole is a roll stock.

### Claim 8

A construct for use in supporting a wall structure, comprising:
a lath member,
a water channel material having a front side and a back side with a width defined therebetween, said water channel material width including therein a structure which yields a circuitous path for water passing through said width under the influence of gravity when said water channel material is in use,
said water channel material being located inboard to a wall structure relative to said lath member which is located more outboard to said wall structure.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The construct of claim 8, wherein said water channel member and said lath member are joined together as an integrated whole as a stock material prior to installation in said wall structure.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The construct of claim 9, further including a plurality of spacers between said lath member and said water channel material.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The construct of claim 10, wherein said spacers are made of a material through which a fastener is receivable in a manner whereby said spacer embraces said fastener in a water sealing manner.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The construct of claim 11, wherein said spacers are provided on a scrim member and are formed integral therewith over a face of said scrim, and said scrim is joined with said lath member and said water channel member as an integrated whole as a stock material.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The construct of claim 8, further including a scrim member having spacers provided on said scrim member which are formed integral therewith over a face of said scrim, and said scrim is located inboard relative to said lath member.

### Claim 14

A lath for use in building, comprising filament-type material which is formed into a non-woven mat yielding interstices within which an initially viscous building material is receivable to form a facing with said mat when said building material is solidified.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The lath of claim 14, wherein said filament-type material is a plastic material.

### Claim 16

A method for building a wall structure comprising;
providing a lath comprising filament-type material which is formed into a non-woven mat yielding interstices within which an initially viscous building material is receivable;
affixing said lath in a generally vertical orientation as part of a wall;
applying said initially viscous building material to said lath to form a facing with said mat when said building material is solidified.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein said filament-type material is a plastic material.

### Claim 18

A method for building a wall structure, comprising
emplacing an interior wall shell structure:
providing a water channel material having a front side and a back side with a width defined therebetween, said water channel material width including therein a structure which yields a circuitous path for water passing through said width under the influence of gravity when said water channel material is in use;
locating said water channel material outboard of said interior wall shell structure;
providing a lath member;
locating said lath member outboard of said water channel material.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18. further including placing spacers between said lath member and said water channel material.

### Claim 20 (depends on 19)

The method of claim 19, wherein said water channel material and said spacers are provided as an integrated whole.

### Claim 21 (depends on 19)

The method of claim 19, wherein said water channel material and said spacers and said lath are provided as an integrated whole.
