Method and apparatus for improving electrode-skin contact

An apparatus for improving electrode-skin contact, said apparatus comprising:

• a segmented electrode comprising a substrate conformable to topography of the surface of the skin of a body part to which said electrode is to be coupled;
• an array of energy applying surfaces mounted on said substrate via at least one electrically activated electro-mechanical energy converting element;
• a source of energy supplying said energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element by energy;
• and
• a controller communicating with said source of energy, energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element.

An apparatus for improving electrode-skin contact, said apparatus comprising:

• a segmented electrode comprising a reusable substrate conformable to topography of the surface of the skin of a body part to which said electrode is to be coupled;
• a disposable array of energy applying surfaces mounted on said substrate;
• a source of energy supplying said energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element;
• and
• a controller communicating with said source of energy, energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element.

An apparatus for improving electrode-skin contact, said apparatus comprising:

• a disposable segmented electrode having a substrate comprising at least two disposable portions connected by at least one reusable bridge and having at least one energy applying surface attached to at least one of said disposable portions;
• a source of energy supplying said energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element;
• and
• a controller communicating with said source of energy, energy applying surfaces and said energy converting element.
