Abstract
Provided herein are methods and compositions for the treatment of motor neuron diseases including, for example, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Suitable therapeutic agents include, for example, agents that up-regulate the expression IGF-II or guanine deaminase in a cell.
Claims23
A method for treating a motor neuron disease in a human patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that up-regulates IGF-II gene expression.
(canceled)
A method of screening a drug for activity against a motor neuron disease comprising the steps of treatment of cells with the drug, measuring the level of IGF-II, comparing the level of IGF-II in the treated cells with a control, and determining that, if the level of IGF-II has increased between 2-fold and 10-fold, the drug has activity against a motor neuron disease.
A method for treating a motor neuron disease in a human patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that up-regulates guanine deaminase gene expression.
