Abstract
The present disclosure relates to methods of increasing lipid levels in an algal or yeast cell population, methods of producing saturated or monounsaturated triacylglycerols in an algal or yeast cell population, and methods of decreasing polyunsaturated triacylglycerol production in an algal or yeast cell population by contacting the cell population with a chemical compound that is capable of increasing lipid levels or altering the lipid composition in the cell population.
Claims22
A method of increasing lipid levels in a cell population, comprising:
- contacting an algal or yeast cell population with at least one compound selected from Table 1 in an amount sufficient to increase lipid levels in said cell population, wherein said at least one compound does not inhibit fatty acid metabolism.
A method of producing saturated or monounsaturated triacylglycerols in a cell population, comprising:
- contacting an algal or yeast cell population with at least one compound selected from Table 1 in an amount sufficient to induce production of one or more saturated or monounsaturated triacylglycerols in said cell population.
