Abstract
A motor vehicle sliding door that may be supported by a pillar of the motor vehicle and having a sliding door assembly with a self-adaptive carriage. A self-adaptive carriage can allow for pillar attachment of the door to the vehicle body at one or more of the A, B, or C pillars with reduced movement efforts and increased stability while accommodating manufacturing tolerance variation over large scale production runs.
Claims22
A sliding door assembly for a motor vehicle comprising:
- a vehicle door;
- a guide rail attached to the vehicle door;
- and
- a self-adaptive carriage mated with the guide rail over a length of travel and including a biasing member that permits the self-adaptive carriage to flex at any given position along the length of travel.

A vehicular door assembly for a motor vehicle, comprising:
- a vehicle door;
- a guide rail attached to the vehicle door;
- a self-adaptive carriage coupled to the guide rail for relative movement between the guide rail and carriage over a length of travel, the self-adaptive carriage including a body, a roller carried by the body and adapted to rotate about an axis and engage the guide rail over at least a portion of the length of travel, and the self-adaptive carriage also including a biasing member that permits movement of the roller relative to at least a portion of the self-adaptive carriage;
- a bearing arm pivotably connected to the self-adaptive carriage, the bearing arm having a pillar mount adapted to be connected to a pillar of the vehicle;
- and
- a control member interacting with the carriage to set the angle of the door panel along the length of travel.
